Key Lime Pies are the most iconic dessert in the Florida Keys. The first were made in the early 20th century and named after the small key lime fruit that naturally grows throughout the region. Made popular by the local fisherman the dessert has grown in popularity thru out the nation.
Our family recipe has been loved and shared locally for decades. In 2014, we reached out to entrepreneur Marcus Lemonis, star of the CNBC show “The Profit." Since 2015, Marcus and his team have continued our legacy of hand-making our 100-year old recipe fresh daily using all-natural ingredients, real key lime juice, and a handmade graham cracker crust.
If you are planning a trip to the Keys, we’d love to serve you a slice of traditional or extra tart key lime pie or perhaps a delicious frozen chocolate-dipped bar. Better yet, join us for a pie-making class where you can go behind-the-scenes and make your very own mini key lime pie in our kitchen. Not visiting the area any time soon? You can get still get a slice of the Keys! Shop our products online and get it shipped anywhere in the continental U.S.
The origin of Key lime pie has been traced back to the late 19th century in the Key West, Florida area. Its exact origins are unknown, but the first formal mention of Key lime pie as a recipe may have been made by William Curry, a ship salvager and Key West's first millionaire; his cook, "Aunt Sally", made the pie for him. If such is the case, however, it is also possible and maybe even probable that Sally adapted the recipe already created by local sponge fishermen. Sponge fishermen spent many contiguous days on their boats, and stored their food on board, including nutritional basics such as canned milk (which would not spoil without refrigeration), limes and eggs. Sponge fishermen at sea would presumably not have access to an oven, and, similarly, the original recipe for Key lime pie did not call for cooking the mixture of lime, milk, and eggs.
